Ukiyo-e painter, illustrator. Born in Shinano Province. First studied Chinese Ming and Ch’ing painting; then to Edo  to study under Toyokuni. Later became a follower of Hokusai. Illustrated many books. Popular and prolific, his work now rare. Some designs in nanga style.
